The Paralegal/Risk Analyst will be a team player within the Underwriting and Legal/Claim Units of Rokstone CRU and will perform tasks that directly support the Underwriters and Legal/Claim team. These tasks will be performed under the direction and supervision of the Underwriters and General Counsel, and the Paralegal/Risk Analyst will be engaged in ongoing development of his/her knowledge of commercial insurance as it relates to Commercial Casualty Construction Insurance.
The Paralegal/RA will be expected to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities, with direction and supervision from the General Counsel and Underwriters where needed as part of his/her development.
Perform due diligence of construction contracts and summarize findings for review by General Counsel.
Research legal history of identified contractors and draft reports with results.
Assist General Counsel with the researching of statutes pertaining to the construction industry and draft memoranda explaining relevance to the specified issue.
Uploading underwriting info into Instanda system
Issuance of Proposals, Binders, Invoices and Policies
Pre-underwrites, evaluates risk, and assesses completeness of the underwriting package before Underwriter is required to review. Communicate directly with Brokers on behalf of the Underwriters to collect account and insured information necessary for risk analysis and quote completion.
Triage new business in collaboration with the UW for business appetite and exceptions.
Develops basic coverage structuring, quotation, and binder packages of the risk on behalf of the Underwriter.
Communicate account status to ensure completion of outstanding subjectivities needed to execute policy issuance and premium collection as part of bound accounts.
Work within our Policy Management System to ensure proper policy issuance, endorsement requests and complete workbook entries.
Proactively problem-solve to balance and manage client/broker expectations with internal service standards.
Collaborate closely with Underwriters as necessary to perform pre-bind activities and to confirm policy issuance instructions and manuscript wordings, regulatory notices, certificates, etc. to effectively instruct the Coding and Issuance Unit.
Create and maintain electronic file for accounts as required for Internal Audit Guidelines.
Skills & Abilities
Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate from an ABA approved institution with 1-3 years related paralegal or insurance experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge of construction contracts is preferred
Knowledge of commercial insurance policy forms and regulatory requirements is preferred, but not required.
Ability to examine, evaluate and summarize construction contracts.
Ability to perform legal research on Lexis database.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills in order to work effectively and professionally with diverse groups.
Proven organizational and problem solving skills.
Proven prioritization and time management skills with accurate results.
Basic competency in MS Office applications: Word, Outlook, Excel, Internet Explorer and Adobe Standard (or similar PDF conversion tool) required.
