Celebrating the Winner of Bear Cave 2026

Some of the best ideas for development don't come from boardrooms, but the people closest to the challenges and the day-to-day realities of how a business operates.

That's exactly why Bear Cave was created. Launched in 2024 by Aventum Group's Head of Innovation, James Fairgrieve, Bear Cave gives employees across the Group the opportunity to share ideas that could help make the business better, smarter and more efficient. Whether an idea generates new revenue, reduces costs, improves the way we work or supports our sustainability ambitions, Bear Cave exists to ensure great ideas have a platform.

And this year, the standard was higher than ever. From client insurance portals and pricing comparison tools to AI-powered assistants and operational improvements, the breadth of ideas submitted demonstrated the creativity, ambition and entrepreneurial mindset that runs throughout Aventum.

After careful consideration, the finalists were selected: Lee Dumford, Bridget Slade, Jordan Lanford, Ravi Dahiya, Harry Field, Dominic Pilgrim, Darcy Wray, Lee Ellis and the joint submission from Ashley Watson and Emily Staite.

The judging panel, which saw James joined by Group CEO, David Bearman, Brand and Marketing Director, April Faint, Head of North American Casualty, Larry Burrows and Claims Associate Partner Hannah Westaway, faced a difficult task. Many of the submissions showed genuine potential to improve how we operate, enhance the experience of our people and clients, and support the future growth of the business.

Each idea brought something different to the table, but all shared one thing in common: a desire to challenge existing ways of working and create meaningful impact.

A Winning Idea

Congratulations to this year's Bear Cave winner, Harry Field. Harry’s idea, AI Test Creation and Execution, takes a next-generation approach to software testing by using agentic AI to automatically create and execute tests. The potential impact is significant. By reducing testing backlogs and accelerating delivery cycles, the concept could help teams move faster, improve efficiency and create more capacity for innovation across the business.

In a year with a variety of strong submissions, the idea stood out for its combination of innovation, practicality and long-term value. James said, “What stood out this year was how many ideas had clear, tangible impact - not just interesting concepts, but things we could genuinely take forward and build into the business.” He added, “I also loved seeing our youngest ever entrant in the mix, which is a reminder that innovation can come from anywhere and is an inspiration to everyone.”

Innovation Comes From Everywhere

Bear Cave was founded on a simple belief: great ideas can come from anyone, anywhere in the business. The initiative continues to demonstrate that innovation is not confined to a particular team, role or department but can (and does) happen when people are encouraged to think differently, challenge assumptions and share their ideas.

The quality of submissions this year reflects the strength of that culture. To everyone who submitted an idea, thank you for helping push the business forward. Your creativity, ambition and willingness to challenge the status quo are what make initiatives like Bear Cave such a success.

And to our winner, congratulations. We hope you enjoy your Silverstone Grand Prix hospitality experience. We are already looking forward to seeing what ideas emerge from Bear Cave 2027.

"Harry’s entry stood out for its combination of innovation and real-world impact - using agentic AI to transform how we create and execute tests, with the potential to significantly reduce backlogs and accelerate delivery across the business."
